Short and sweet Even more pneumatic cylinder sensors have been launched recently by sensor market leader ifm electronic Ltd. These new devices in the MK51 series offer very precise detection of short travel distances, so for short-stroke cylinders, in particular the hysteresis, they offer of below a millimetre means exact position detection. Being very small themselves, only 25mm in length, is an added bonus for short cylinders. The fixing method also ensure that they remain reliably in position no matter how much movement there is in the cylinder, or strain on the cable. Even weak magnets are not a problem for the AMR sensing cell incorporated into the fast-acting new MK51 cylinder sensors. Installation couldn't be simpler: if the cylinder has a T-slot, the switch drops in, slid into position and then tightened up. If there is no T-slot, the multitude of adapters available from ifm electronic will ensure a good fit. Electrically common options are catered for, with open and closed functions, positive or negative switching, and the connection can be made via 2m cables or shorter lengths with standard M8 or M12 connectors. ifm electronic's unique manufacturing of all MK cylinder sensors leads to unparallelled sealing of the housing, rendering them virtually impenetrable.
