Safe at last Reduction in wiring of safety inputs using of AS-i is nothing new, but so far it hasn’t catered for safe outputs. Finally this has been set to rights with the recent launch of the SmartLine AC030S from AS-i founders ifm electronic. The panel-mount AC030S naturally conforms to all relevant safety standards, from the current and familiar EN954-1 Category 4, to its replacement ISO13849-1 Performance Level e, and of course IEC61508, SIL3. The AC030S features one positively-driven safe relay output with dual contacts capable of switching 3A, but also has four non-safe inputs for standard devices. The font panel features five LEDs for indication of input or output status, operation, faults and alarms. As a prerequisite the updated Safety Controller (AC031S single channel or AC032S dual channel) must be used, as the earlier versions weren't designed to configure outputs; using the new ASIMON V3.0 the Controller will allow the new AC030S output device to be incorporated into the safe part of the AS-i network with ease.
