Beyond wet wet wet With their OG WetLine ,almost a decade ago, sensor specialist ifm electronic set the benchmark for photocells designed for washdown areas. Now ifm have raised the bar even higher with the next generation of the WetLine M18 sensors. Optimised for harsh applications in wet areas the original WetLine were the first to be withstand testing to IP69K. There is no test or standard high enough to define the new versions, so they are still labelled IP69K, but nothing is better suited for applications in the food industry, such as in cheese plants, breweries or in the meat industry. The development was able to benefit from ifm’s extensive application know-how and experience. Of course the housing is 316L stainless steel housing, the lens is PMMA and the integrated PVC cable has a length of six metres to get far away from anything wet. Sensing versions available range from 20m through-beam sets through 4m retro-reflective to diffuse devices with several options. There are options because the sensing range is fixed. When all ingress points are well sealed, the setting, be it pushbutton or potentiometer, is a potential weakpoint, so ifm engineers deliberately left it out. Thus there are three different fixed-range background-suppressed sensors with 100mm, 200mm amd 300mm sensing distance. Each WetLine device also has a fixed function, light or dark switching variants are provided. All operate on 10 to 36 V DC, switching 200 mA PNP. For further information on OG WetLine with cable
