Longer range with new units Further expansion of available RFID reader and read/write heads offer users longer range options with the DTA300 series. Hailed by many as the best innovation in RFID in years, ifm electronic’s AS-interface-based RFID system allows a user to either simply add RFID to an existing AS-i network, or easily and efficiently create an RFID system with 31 read/write (or just read) heads. Simplicity is a benefit of this flexible system, further improved with the new heads. The DTA300 series gives a reading distance up to 100mm, enabling the tag position to vary, yet retaining data security by not being too far removed (and perhaps reading the wrong tag). The DTA300 series with increased write/read distances solves applications in assembly/conveying technology and handling automation. The DTA300 itself is a read/write head that can be integrated into AS-i networks in no time and is ready for operation immediately. In addition to the lower cost for hardware, this also saves time during set-up. The DTA301 read only supports the AS-i profile S-7.3 for analogue input slaves and is the compact and low-cost alternative in applications that only require reading of the ID tag data. The ID tags are mounted on the objects to be identified (tanks, goods or workpiece carriers). When they come into the detection range of the read/write heads (read/write module), the information is read at up to 0.5 m/s. The data transfer is controlled by the AS-i control level (master, controller, gateway, host). The read/ write heads are used in the AS-i network as analogue slaves according to the profile 7.4 or 7.3 with a master controlling up to 31 slaves. The compact read/ write head includes, in addition to the antenna, the complete evaluation and the interface to AS-i, so that the units can be directly operated in the AS-interface network and so that the transmission of data to the controller is possible.
