More protection New safety light curtains just released by sensor market leader ifm electronic Ltd feature 14mm resolution, fine enough to detect a finger. Designed for areas of machine access where an operator's fingers could become trapped, or worse, the latest addition to the OY range of light curtains from ifm electronic Ltd meet Type 4 to IEC 61496, SIL3 to IEC 61508 and PLe to ISO 13849. These new additions to the OY safety light curtain range complement the devices launched earlier this year in the elegant slim-lime housing measuring a mere 28mm x 30mm. Ten versions of the 14mm resolution types make up this additional selection, with protected area heights ranging from 160mm up to 1510mm, in 150mm increments. Each of the ten types will protect an area up to six metres wide. Combinations are possible to cover areas on adjoining planes. So if an L-shape guard is needed, placing two units together will achieve this, as the individual elements cover right up to the end of the device. So if, with the new Machinery Directive almost upon us, you are looking for Safety Integrity Levels 2 or 3 to IEC 61508 and Perfomance levels d or e to ISO 13849, look no further. The OY series light curtains and grids are available as Type 2 or Type 4 to IEC 61496 in heights from 160mm to 1510mm covering distances up to 20m with resolutions from 14mm to 90mm. One thing they all have in common: a very slim housing, only 28mm x 30mm. The beams are incorporated right up to the end of the housing allowing installation without deadband.
